Autism, Asperger's syndrome is disorder which is affecting both children and adults. People affected with this syndrome find it difficult to interect with other peole, specially in social settings. It is because they can't understand the emotion of others and they often behave in a manner that is unacceptable to other people.
Book describes what Asperrger's syndrom is, how to read the symptopms, how to diagnose this disorder.. There is also story of a person who was married to someone who suffered from this disorder, it is very useful read, what to do, how to behave, and try to find a help..Once diagnosed, one could do something about it..The worst thiing would be to do nothing.
There are some things that have to set right as people with this disorder have to have routine, people around have to show a great patience. The key to successful living with someone with Asperger's syndrome is patience. It takes love, patience and support to live happy and fullfilled life with your loved ones. There is also ADHD described, and things that one can do to help, including natural remedies.

Great book for introductory hydrology

I purchased this book for a class I am taking, and the detail the book provides about hydrology is excellent. It covers all of the major principles for hydrology from precipitation and runoff calculations, going into further depth with CN values for overland runoff and much more. Another big topic this book covers well is Evapotranspiration. If you're studying hydrology for the upcoming semester, or you want to learn how to manage water, this book will be great for that.

I think the book is organized well and it is very thorough. I am taking a Hydrology class and we are using this as our textbook. The professor says he has used this book as long as he remembers and he has been teaching the class for over 8 years. He thinks the text is good, but he does not think there are good example or homework problems.

Great book to share with a child...

I can not say enough good things about this book. It teaches us that parrots are very social creatures that are best left to live in flocks in the wild. The story is written so that a child can enjoy and understand it. The illustrations are breathtakingly beautiful.

After the story is told, the author includes information on parrots as well as things we can do to help protect them. The two stories about former pet parrots now living in rescues brought tears to my eyes.

It is also important to note that the author went the extra mile to have this book printed on paper that is made from 10% flax, 40% recycled post comsumer waste, and 50% sustainably harvested trees. Many books are printed on paper made from Indonesian ranforest trees; contributing to the destruction of the parrots native habitat.

Kudos to Myra Tweti for an excellent family-friendly and eco-friendly book!

Learned about parrots, but in a fun way

I read 'Here, There and Everywhere' to my 4-year-old daughter and she loved it -- we both did. Sreeeet is a lorikeet who is captured and taken from his home and family and ends up with an apartment-dwelling family in New York. The story, told from Sreeeet's point of view, explains why parrots are unhappy in captivity, and why they behave the way they do when trapped. My daughter and I learned about something we see every day -- the brightly colored parrots in the neighborhood pet store. They are no longer just another animal to look at and then walk by. In addition, this is just a good story. We laughed at the funny parts, swooned at the beautiful parts, and couldn't wait to see how it ended. My daughter asked me to please read it to her again the next night, and I did.

Don't miss this fabulous children's book

When I bought my first copy and read it with my niece who is 10, she loved it and both of us were amazed at the beautiful artwork. This book is not a fantasy book, it's about a group of parrots, one of whom is trapped in the wild and taken for sale to another country but eventually winds his way back home. It gives children a taste of the problems encountered in the illegal wild bird trade which is an important dose of reality. I was so impressed I bought a second copy for my grandchildren, ages 5 and 10, and I highly recommend this book to anyone. It is beautifully done and educational at the same time.

Matthew Weiner, MD is a weight loss surgeon who lives and practices in the suburbs of Detroit, Michigan. This book is the first step to opening the door to freedom . Freedom from Obesity and being unhealthy .

If you have struggled with your weight then you will understand what I mean by opening the door to freedom. Dr Weiner holds the key to that freedom .I have tried every diet. Read a lot of books. I have purchased machines that now collect dust and hold laundry. I have joined gyms and quit going. I have tried supervised medical weight loss. I gained and lost weight for the last 30 years.Then I met Dr Weiner and in one meeting and conversation he changed my life. He told me, " I can help you permanently lose the weight if you want help". I was ready to listen. I never dreamed it would be this easy. To follow his plan,read his book, and my life of struggling with weight would finally be over. I was finally free from the burden of fat and all that it entails. The tears at the closet and in dressing rooms, the feelings of inadequacy just because I was heavy, the list goes on and on. The mental and physical baggage of years of abuse of myself over weight were being slowly dissolved with each pound lost as I was eating great food. This book will change your health, your weight, and most importantly, your confidence and general well being. This book will teach you how to eat healthy. Dr Weiner will start you off by resetting your metabolism to detox your system from the sugar and carbs you have been addicted too for so long. This 2 week step is crucial to your success . Once complete , you will be craving free and on your way to weight loss and healthy living. I lost1 lb a day in the first 2 weeks. I began to really taste the food and look forward to eating. There is a lot of preparation involved with this lifestyle change but when the weight starts falling off ,it is well worth the time and effort. There are wonderful recipes in the book to help.He explains the science and reasons why we should be eating fresh fruits and vegetables and giving up the grains. It makes sense. It is easy to read. This is not a diet! This is a life style change.I have been eating this way for 6 months and have lost 55 lbs and more importantly I feel fantastic! Finally...a Bariatric Surgeon Who Gives a #$@*! About Nutrition

For those of us who undertook weight loss surgery to reclaim our health after being far far less than healthy....its not just about losing weight...and keeping it off....but a real focus on what we're taking into our bodies. We won't thrive on processed protein products....we'll lose weight but we wont keep it off and we won't be healthy.

Dr. Weiner's plan featuring a pound of vegetables (raw and cooked) and fruit will provide us with the nutrients and bulk to keep us happy and healthy and content with our food. I am so grateful for the time and energy he is taking to put together this plan.

Awesome book!

This is a awesome book and we'll worth the money. I am a gastric bypass patient of 5 years. I have had a tough time the past year (I won't bore you with the details) my doctor retired and I haven't been about to find a replacement or a local support group. In my search I ran across a YouTube video with dr Mattew Weiner talking about WLS and his program/book A Pound A Cure.

A pound a cure program works for any one. This program is not a diet but a lifestyle change. If you need to lose weight because you have lost control of a healthy diet or your looking to get back on track weight lose surgery or not THIS IS THE BOOK YOUR LOOKING FOR!!

Dr Weiner explain how to reset your metabolic thermostat with out having weight loss surgery or having to spend hundreds of dollars on program fees, diet food and other other products that leave you unsatisfied and still hungry and that also contain all sorts of chemicals that elevate your metabolic thermostat which results in weight gain. I bought this book last week and started on stage 1 and I have already lost 6 lbs.

I recommend this book to any one that is wanting to lose weight and feel great.

Thank you Dr Weiner for helping me get back on track and living a heathy lifestyle.

I bought this book expecting it to be an explanation of how to build a brick oven. Far from it. If you want history and sixty pages of "facts" this is your book, if you actually are researching to build an oven it won't do.

Turning the clock back!

Rebuilding or starting anew, the job of creating a state of the (18th century) art in cooking and heating centres for your house, large or small, is covered in this small book. The author took me step by step through the development of fireplaces and ovens as they were constructed in colonial and newly independent east coast USA. I now feel I have an understanding of the importance of this most essential part of the house. Also some idea of how to use and maintain one. It was a fascinating trip into the past and a look at an almost ignored part of the 18th century home with a view to design, safety and good cooking. Terrific book, easily read and interesting subject!

American literature and politics have never been so funny

Peter Swirski has once again done his magic ' turning what are commonly perceived as serious and high-threshold (not to say high-brow) subjects, namely politics and literature, into witty and humorous hot talks of the day. Forming the core of 'Ars Americana, Ars Politica' are five 'nobrow' political bestsellers which, in the author's opinion, even though they have made remarkable strides in opening America's eyes to their government, have as yet failed to receive the (popular) artistic recognition they deserve. Analyzing the books against the political background each was published in, 'Ars Americana' strives to reeducate American readers on how to appreciate the popular aesthetics of these partisan and politically influential works.

However, this landmark work by Swirski is more than just 'literary-critical'. Even more it is a 'history-critical study with a political stance'. By showing how the political leprosy these five works condemned ago are still relevant today, it leaves a resounding mark on readers' minds, provoking their awareness of current political abuses and idiocies.

Attempting to give readers a more systematic overview on how modern American politics has evolved'or in fact, how it has NOT evolved regardless of how many decades pass by'Ars Americana is explicitly organized chapter by chapter in chronological order. Representing the 60s is Wallace's 'The Man' which head-on challenged the status quo of white dominant society by creating a black president and putting him in America's most exquisite landmark of power, the Oval Office. With Nixon in office, the 70s marked the height of behind-the-scenes organized- crime-as-organized-politics which Richard Condon bluntly satirized by creating the incarnation of the 37th president, Walter Bodmor Slurrie, who comes to power by making the same shady, corrupt, I-love-America deals in Death of a Politician as Nixon did in real life.

While O'Rourke Parliament of Whores puts the cash-burning 80s'the result of Reagan's 'economic miracle', under hilarious satiric scrutiny'Warren Beatty's Bulworth is a one-of-a-kind political-political-political movie from the 90s which blows open the taboo of 'socialism', a term despised by big multinationals who continue to be the masters and masterminds of America. Last come the 2000s when Bush II's administration and his grand war on terror was stripped down to nothing by Moore's sensationally successful book, 'Stupid white men' and other sorry excuses for the state of Nation'.

Defending their popular-artistic premises, Peter Swirski starts each chapter by critically analyzing how each work's narration, rhetoric, plotting and characters are results of careful thought and extensive research. While some are utterly hilarious while attacking the government with mind-blowing mockery (Moore and O'Rouke), others are fact-based and fact-rich 'factions' which delve into controversies so strong that should cause mass scrutiny of the Washington power den (Wallace, Condon and Beatty).

The author, however, has not stopped here. Through detail reviews of each era's social agony and political scandal, Swirski brought readers further to appreciate the political value of these works. For example, the explicit depiction of the Black Panther Party in 'THE MAN' demonstrated to readers that the 60s were not only an era of discrimination but FEAR of the black minority. Only with such understanding can readers recognize why 'The Man', which took honest stock of black power, should received more recognition as the author acclaim.

Easy to read and entertaining on almost every page, Ars Americana is a phenomenal extension to Swirski's earlier studies of nobrow literature. With convincing evidence and interesting viewpoints, he has successfully taught an outsider like me a great deal of how to appreciate the aesthetics of literary works in general, and nobrow literature in particular. Besides, and most importantly, its diagnosis on political situations has deepened my eyes to American Politics which now I understand, is immensely corrupt and interesting. Popular art is not 'malnutrition' as some say, and political art is not a contradiction in terms!

An absorbing and thought-provoking read

I thoroughly enjoyed this absorbing book! In fact I found it hard to put down, letting the weeding of the garden go undone until I had finished. Mr. Swirski uses popular literature as a starting point to discuss American politcs and culture, a mix that I found fascinating and enlightening. His writing style is engaging. I particularly enjoyed the chapter discussing Michael Moore's book and the politics surrounding it--the discussion of truth in documentaries was eye-opening for me. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in the state of American politics and culture.

That survey, say the authors, provides the first data showing a direct, statistically verifiable link between digital games and professional behavior in the workplace. The authors express their analysis in clean, crisp prose devoid of jargon, making it accessible for non-gamers, especially non-gamers who are managers. "Gamers believe that winning matters," Beck and Wade contend, and gamers also place "a high value on competence—wanting to be an expert in the first place"—all of which makes the video game generation, estimated by the authors to be some 90 million strong, an influential force in the work place. Hope for the future of gamers.......

I bought this book 10 years ago when my high school aged son was devoting all of his energies to World of Warcraft. My wife and I were looking for hope for the future when we came across this book. We learned that he might have been learning project management skills that would hold him in good stead when he got a meaningful job, hoping, in fact, that he would. Today he is a Software Engineer at Amazon! There is hope out there parents.

Got Game

As an over-achieving boomer who barely took time for fun, let alone games, I feel I have been introduced to a whole new world by reading Got Game. I have raised, taught, and managed gamers without knowing the extent to which they functioned in a world very different from my own. Oh, we all recognize the concept of "generation gap", but even so we don't often have the opportunity to have the details of that gap explained to us in the enjoyable way we do by reading Got Game. Beck and Wade make the exploration of the gaming phenomenon an insightful and fun journey into the minds of people we work with, or perhaps even members of our own families. It was a real wake-up call. I've even been phoning my own now-professional children to ask them about their gaming experiences.

As a former college-level business instructor, I see an important application for this book not only in business but in business education. It should be on the must-read list of all educators.

One more thing--I've decided I have to get a Game Boy!

You'll either love it or hate it. I loved it.

To start, it's not about how it's OK to hole-up and game all day. But it does make a solid case for gaming---and that means your current point-of-view is to going to quickly shape your reaction to this book. But hang in there...because you really can't ignore the truth of the impact on risk-taking, perseverance, innovation...and it's role in shaping managers. No matter how you feel about gaming...and whether you game or not...this book provides and insightful look into what's shaping the next crop of managers. Resource scarcity shaped my grandfather; the boundless optimism of the 50s shaped my Dad. TV and "instant solutions" (read "this quarter...") shaped me. Games are shaping my son. I think he's the one to watch.
