Well-explained, complete repertoire against 1.e4

I am a chess player with a rating close to 2000.

This is a very good opening book that gives a reperoire for black against the move 1.e4, based on the "Accelerated Sveshnikov" or "Kalashnikov" Sicilian -- 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 _e5_. Most of the book deals with variations resulting from that, often giving two options to black, a more aggressive option (usually based on a quick ...f5) and a more solid option based on gradually neutralizing white's play, and improving black's position strategically.

But there is more! Anybody who's ever played the Sicilian knows that white often plays other moves than 2.Nf3 and 3.d4, alternatives include all kinds of systems like the Rossolimo, Alapin, Closed, Grand Prix... This book also gives a repertoire against those! In this day and age where hundreds of pages are written about sub-sub-variations of openings, that is really exceptional. Only a single book for an entire Sicilian repertoire!

I think the moves are very well explained, the lines are fun to play, and the repertoire forms a coherent whole (which helps in understanding and remembering the lines). A player in a rating range of say 1700 to 2400 can use this book to learn everything he needs to learn to deal with the most common opening move in chess. Below that a book like this is overkill, and I assume players stronger than that will have their own opinion on things.

2250 here, I like this book too. I cannot go five stars as I find some of the analysis optimistic. There are excellent suggestions for fighting lines in the 3.Bb5 variations etc.

Great opening

I am about halfway through and I greatly enjoy the book. I Have also used this opening to fight a master friend of mine with decent results in blitz. If it wasn't for the clock I would certainly have more wins :) In the end I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the Kalashnikov. You will certainly enjoy yourself.

The chapter introducing convection heat transfer describes and presents the traditional coffee pot problem practice problems. The chapter on convection heat transfer in a closed conduit gives equations to model the flow inside an internally finned duct. The end-of-chapter problems proceed from short and simple confidence builders to difficult and lengthy problems that exercise hard core problems solving ability.
Now in its third edition, this text continues to fulfill the author’s original goal: to write a readable, user-friendly text that provides practical examples without overwhelming the student. Using drawings, sketches, and graphs, this textbook does just that.

Useful book - outlines what to study and prep for - NOT a collection of questions.

This is an interesting book for Urology Board Review.

1. Reasonable priced (for these types of medical prep books)
2. Pretty up to date and reasonable.
3. Organized in a outline fashion. Unlike some prep books that are actually collection of questions, this book quickly organizes the field into a manageable outline. It has specific tables and helpful mnemonics. I like to study in this fashion - other people may not find as useful.
4. Most of all, it hits the "factoids". The reality is that all of the questions are of equal value - so a clinical question that is of great practical use is worth no more than a factoid question about embryology.

About the Author
Mario Carpo teaches architectural history and theory at the School of Architecture of Paris-La Villette, at the Georgia Institute of Technology and at the Yale School of Architecture. His research and publications focus on the relationship between architectural theory, cultural history and the history of information technology. Among his publications are the award-winning Architecture in the Age of Printing (2001), monographs on Sebastiano Serlio and Leon Battista Alberti, and The Alphabet and the Algorithm (2011),a history and critique of digital design theory. Carpo’s writings are also published internationally in journals and architectural magazines.
