Good introduction

This was one of the textbooks for a class I took. It's a good introduction to the subject. I would have liked to see more details in some of the examples -- specifically where the case, aspect, or tense being discussed is not part of English grammar. Because it can be difficult to grasp these foreign concepts, it would be helpful to devote a little more space to thoroughly explaining and demonstrating them. Nevertheless, it's a good source for basic information about the general principles of morphology.

Graham Patrick, University of the West of Scotland

Graham Patrick is a lecturer in Organic Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry at the University of the West of Scotland, Glasgow. He is the author of four other undergraduate textbooks covering medicinal chemistry and organic chemistry, including Introduction to Medicinal Chemistry, which is now in its fifth edition.

I highly recommend this book

Detailed in the synthesis of various drugs and talks about synthesis successes and challenges. The appendices list the various reactions needed to do whatever functionality is desired and wanted on a compound. This book even comes with an online source that helps you better understand the strategies behind the manufacture of drugs. I highly recommend this book!

About the Author

Robert N. Lussier, PhD, is a professor of management at the birthplace of basketball, Springfield College in Springfield, Massachusetts, where more than one-third of the students compete in 27 intercollegiate athletic teams. He has taught undergraduate and graduate sport management students for more than 15 years. He has also supervised sport internships and serves as an advisor for sport management research projects.

Lussier has authored more than 385 publications, including texts in management, leadership, and human relations. He was an intercollegiate athlete and has coached at the college, high school, and youth levels. He works out daily and enjoys spending time with his wife and six children.

David C. Kimball, PhD, is a professor of management and director of the sport management program at Elms College in Chicopee, Massachusetts. He teaches sport management and sport marketing courses and coaches and supervises Maccabi athletes each summer. He has an expansive network of friends and acquaintances in the sport management field; many of the case studies in this book arose from these relationships.

He loves being personally involved in sports and runs 30 miles a week while participating in Les Mills training. He also enjoys watching sports on television almost as much as at the arena, ballpark, or stadium.

How insulting!

In essence, this book defines a gentleman as a person who can effectively mask his lack of taste and knowledge in an effort to get close enough to women to have sex with them. I've never read a book that used the word "sneer" so many times. It prides itself on its "let's-update-bubba" tactics, and largely advocates lying about one's life as a means to convince others that one is actually a well-mannered, educated, broad-thinking individual. I am disgusted and appalled that I wasted my money on such a low-brow, puerile piece of trash as this.

About the Author
Author D. M. Ulmer enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1947. In two-years, he was promoted to third class electronic technician onboard the submarine USS Clamagore. Six months later, he was advised he’d be transferred to the Naval Academy Prep School. When Ulmer asked his captain “why me?” the skipper replied facetiously, “I don’t think you’re smart enough to make second class and I need the bunk space!” Ulmer returned to Clamagore in 1967 as Commanding Officer. He then became one of a few, if not the only CO, to have served in an enlisted status and as commanding officer in the same warship. Captain Ulmer’s 32 year Navy Career included: 1949 German submarine U-2513; Given to the US Navy in 1945 as partial reparation for WWII. Mar. – Sept. 1949 USS Clamagore (SS 343). 1954 US Naval Academy graduate. July 1954 – 55 USS Fremont (APA 44). July – 55 US Navy Officers’ Submarine School. Jan. 1956 – June 58 USS Halfbeak (SS 352). What was more important the submarine recovery and danger involved or a relationship between a widower and school teacher? Your cover suggest one not the other. More torpedoes and less love affairs.

Astounding story

Ulmer, again, leads us to an undersea adventure with his trademark appealing characters; some transitional from previous novels...much to our delight! I did like those folks!
Details of submarine life is secondary to the sinister development of conspiracy and suspense.
As a 'landlubber'and a female to boot, I found the narrative to move along with a 'don't put it down' result.
Ulmer's previous novels gave us insight into the lives of submarine commanders and crew with their sometimes complicated relationships ashore, thus strengthening the appeal to a woman's readership.
Building on that, in this novel, he develops characters within varying settings leading to the conclusion colored by international intrigue.
The main conflict captivates with an astounding climax. A gripping story. Ulmer knows his subject well. His first hand knowledge conveys an authenticity to the plot, completing a tale of intensity.
In my view, this is the best of his five exceptional submarine Cold War based novels...although I am glad I didn't miss any of them.

Took the Praxis Core and CSET at the same time of year (I was applying for several schools across the US). This book will suffice for studying for BOTH exams except for the CSET's art section. Buying this for a second time now that my husband is going into SPED. Wish him luck!

It's pretty good but I wasn't able to access the online practice test. I was feeling frustrated about it since I was excited to work on it only to realize that I can't move to the next page. I was only on the first page then when I tried to click the arrow so I can go to the next page and so on, it wasn't working. The book is helpful but I wished I've done the online practice too that would somehow complete my review.

The second edition of "Getting Started with Hazelcast" (2015) adds three new chapters that cover trendy topics such as Big Data; Cloud; use of Hazelcast with popular frameworks such as Spring and Hibernate, and JMX, and how to use Hazelcast as an implementation of JCache (JSR 107). The book's title is apropos as the book is focused on "getting started with Hazelcast." The book serves as a nice complement for the Hazelcast Documentation (Reference Manual) and "Mastering Hazelcast" (a download available from Hazelcast for those who provide their name and email address).

Over 400 million years, spiders have developed their sensory organs to a fascinating technical perfection and complexity.
In his intriguing book, Professor Friedrich G. Barth puts this technical perfection into the context of "biology", in which the interaction between environment and sensory organs and the selectivity of the senses as a link between environment and behavior play a major role. Professor Friedrich G. Barth was born in Munich, Germany, in 1940. He studied biology and human physiology in Munich and Los Angeles. In 1967, he obtained his doctorate under H. Autrum, 1970 he received his Habilitation in zoology. In 1974, he was offered a chair at the University of Frankfurt/M. Since 1987, he has been professor at the University of Vienna, Austria. His main areas of research are neurobiology, sensory systems, and biomechanics. He is a member of several scientific academies and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Comparative Physiology A.

A unique and valuable book on spiders

If you are interested in the biology of spiders, this is a terrific book. It is written at a level that makes it a useful introduction to research in spider biology (particularly sensory physiology) for scientists, but it also has much to offer the younger student who is beginning to learn about spiders. Although the focus of this book is on research related to relatively large "ctenid" spiders, the applicability is much more general. If you have a new pet "tarantula" (Theraphosidae) and want to learn more about it, this is a better starting place than most popular books on "tarantulas." Thus it has a place in both research libraries and public libraries.

I wish the price were not so high, but if you have a strong interest in really learning about spiders, this book is well worth the price. This thoughtful and comprehensive book can absorb your interest for a long time, and it will get you into the technical literature for even more information. The quality of writing, illustration, and presentation is outstanding.

A spider's world.

This is very well written. The content is somewhat technical, but with a few exceptions it could be followed by anyone who has had some scientific education. It is not a light weight read, effort and thought are required, but for readers who are interested in spider biology, or how animals perceive their environment it is a first class book, albeit expensive.
